Sea Henge
In 2001 just a short distance from Scolt Head about 3-4miles West along the coast, an amazing discovery was made by a local historian John lorrimer, on the beach at Holm-next-the-Sea North Norfolk. During regular visits and a period of heavy erosion of the shore, Mr Lorrimer started finding various artifacts lots of pottery, stone tools and a lovely bronze knife amongst many others. This later led to the discovery a complete wooden Bronze Age burial ring dating back to 2000 B.C and at a later stage a second ring. Well at least it was complete until heavy handed Archiologists took a chainsaw to it to get material to date it, a large wedge was removed, I think in this day and age a more sypathetic approach would be made.
Due to the locality on the coast near to Scolt Head and historical significance of this find, I decided to add a small gallery in honor of this major historical find, you never know whats under your feet.
These are just a few scanned prints I have added to this site, as original images are fairly scarce of the structure when complete and in-situ on the shore, shortly after it was found. The structures were later removed and are now preserved in a museum at Flag Fen and Kings Lynn.
